Artisan workspace with natural weaving materials

Preserving Craft, Creating Beauty

Dapper Iris began with a simple observation: the most treasured objects in any home are rarely the most expensive—they are the ones with soul. A basket passed down from a grandmother. A wall hanging from a memorable journey. Objects that carry stories.

We established our studio to bridge the gap between traditional South African weaving communities and people seeking authentic handcrafted decor. Every piece we offer comes directly from skilled artisans who have inherited their techniques across generations.

Our role is one of connection and curation. We work closely with weavers in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo, understanding their capabilities and ensuring fair compensation. We then translate client needs into commissions that honour both the craft tradition and contemporary design sensibilities.

What Guides Our Work

Authenticity

No shortcuts, no imitations. Every piece is genuinely handwoven using traditional methods and natural materials sourced responsibly.

Fair Partnership

Our artisan partners receive equitable payment for their skill and time. Sustainable craft requires sustainable livelihoods.

Patience

Quality weaving cannot be rushed. We set realistic timelines that respect the craft process and deliver pieces worth waiting for.

Local Focus

All materials and labour come from South Africa. Supporting local communities and reducing environmental impact through shorter supply chains.

From Consultation to Creation

Every commission begins with understanding your vision. We discuss dimensions, intended use, colour preferences, and the feeling you want the piece to evoke.

This brief is then shared with the most suitable artisan partner. They select appropriate materials—often harvesting them personally—and begin the weaving process. Depending on complexity, creation takes between two weeks and three months.

You receive updates and photographs throughout. When complete, each piece is inspected for quality before careful packaging and delivery to your door.
